name: Mallaidh (pronounced ‘Molly’)
alias around humans/when needed: Mallaidh Ashby
age: Several hundred years, give or take; she’s taken from around the year 1750, although it’s unknown how far back her timeline goes. I am however happy to place her in whatever time period is needed for a thread!

birthday: 20th March
height: 5’8”
race: Fae; Leannan Sidh

appearance: Mallaidh appears as a regular human, though she can choose to move unseen amongst humans if she chooses to, as it’s said she only becomes visible to the person she wishes to court or has fallen for. However, this isn’t a hard and fast rule.

first impressions:

- The first thing most will notice is that Mallaidh is not only undeniably beautiful, but there’s something about her that makes you feel at ease. She has an easy smile and kind eyes, and while she speaks quite softly and not all that often, she seems the sort you could sit next to and just spill your heart out to.

- If you happen to meet her on her travels or on the road, she'll likely be riding a large chestnut horse, affectionately named Ri.

basic info:

Mallaidh is a beautiful and powerful faerie that can bestow an artist with inspiration and genius, allowing them to create masterpieces of great depth and feeling, in exchange for their total love and devotion to her. The greater the love shown and the more her gift is nurtured, the more poignant and intense the inspiration given becomes.

‘Artist’ in this sense is pretty broad; painters, sculptors, poets, writers – if there is some form of artistic expression happening, she’s got you covered.
However, should she choose to leave her lover for whatever reason, they will slowly become despondent and lacking any inspiration that can rival hers, thus driving them to give up their art, or in many cases, falling into madness or even death, unless they can find another of her kind to replace her.

The common self-destructive nature of many artists of old has leant to the misconception that her kind are a sort of vampiric species, feeding off of the love of mortals until she grows bored of them, or that she’s evil. However, this is not strictly the case.

Currently residing in a small cottage on the coast of Northern Ireland, Mallaidh spends any time she has to herself on her own artistic endeavours; she writes poetry, music and plays, she uses paint and charcoal to create beautiful and mysterious works of art. She’s also a lover of music, singing and dance, with ballet being a particular favourite of hers.

As far as her need for mortal love goes, it’s been a while since she’s taken a human lover; where she can cause great heartache and loss in others, it easily goes the same way for her. Where she feels things very intensely and with how profoundly she’s been known to fall in love, she herself has known terrible heartbreak and pain in the past, and so now, she tends to sate her need in another way.

Instead of feeding off of the love of one mortal at a time, she’s chosen the love of many in the form of artistic performance. Acting, singing, and dancing especially – anything that humans show up for in droves to watch. And what with the nature of what she is, the more she feels as though her gift is being appreciated, the more she gives back – and thus, the more love and appreciation her audience feel they need to give her – and, by default, the more they return to see her again, and again, and again.

Does she want to fall head over heels again? Yes, very much so – she’s just become that much more careful with who she gives her own heart to. When she does find a lover, however, she loves very deeply indeed.

brief personality;

- As stated in her first impressions, Mallaidh is generally quite shy, and only tends to enjoy a lot of attention when she’s on a stage of some sort. Offstage, she’s observant and a good listener, and prefers to be in company but simply listen to others talk and laugh.

- She gets a lot of fulfilment and enjoyment out of both learning and teaching, and has very little hesitation when it comes to trying something new.

- Her gift of inspiration extends not only to romantic love, but also platonic as well, and while she doesn’t apply her power to everyone she befriends (after all, she doesn’t always stay in one place, and the last thing she’d want is for those she leaves behind to fall into despair without her), she does enjoy having many friends around her who she can help inspire and improve their creations. She’s a very good host and enjoys having people in her home to fill it with voices and music and laughter, although she does equally cherish peace and quiet.

- A naturally caring, kind sort, she won’t hesitate to help someone in need, however this has been known to backfire, and her giving nature has sometimes left her betrayed or deceived. Despite this, Mallaidh is very playful and bright around those she loves; she adores children, finding their unbridled creativity and imaginations inspiring herself. It’s almost impossible to feel sad or angry around her when she’s in a playful sort of mood, or so it’s been said.

- Deeply committed and loyal to those she’s chosen to care for, it’s a guarantee that she’ll be there for you whatever you’re going through, and she’ll gladly give whatever she needs to in order to make things right or better, whether it’s her time or her skills or just a comforting ear.

- She is, generally speaking, very forgiving and is, as a rule, very patient. However; if a lover or close friend does choose to betray her trust or their commitment to her, she does have a temper on her, though not the violent sort that many other fae turn to. The person on the receiving end will find it impossible to finish what they were in the process of making, whether it be a book, a painting or a play, and will lose their drive to create anything more in the future until they can sincerely earn back her trust.

If they can, anyway.
